Big step for BIM in EU

EU Parliament votes to modernise European public works by BIM

On 15th January, The European Parliament approved a Directive for Public Sector Procurement which includes two references to BIM. These references encourage public authorities to consider using BIM in public works and draws attention to the benefits that BIM offers to public construction projects.

The Directive puts in place a wide range of public sector economic and societal goals that must be implemented in all twenty eight European Member States by 2016. The references to BIM create the opportunity for all EU Member States to recommend or specify the use of BIM for publicly funded construction and building projects. It presents European public procurers an opportunity to drive through innovation, greater value for public money and a more efficient and competitive EU construction sector.
